Children are our nation’s most valuable resources. Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders.
More than 16 million American children live in poverty. In New York State, 15.1% of families live below the poverty level. And in the Binghamton-area, a shocking 33.3% of families live below the poverty level.
These economic circumstances create extremely low self-esteem for children, and can lead to little or no hope for the future.
Each child has a choice of two paths to the future. One path leads to a productive life as an asset to the community. The other path leads to a life of dependency on the community for support. Without outside help, the path of least resistance is too often the path to a life of dependency.
The critical social issue is the identification and pursuit of programs, which will create or raise the self-esteem of children, give them hope for the future and help steer them toward productive lives.
The Children’s Charity of Greater Binghamton is a not-for-profit, charitable organization formed under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Donations to the Children’s Charity of Greater Binghamton are tax-deductible as charitable contributions for US federal income tax purposes.
